About the ASCA Awards:

After tasting spirits from a record-breaking number of entrants across 39 states, this year’s panel of ACSA judges selected winners of each spirit category to award gold, silver, and bronze medals. Over 600 spirits were submitted overall.

This year’s judging panel was made up of 31 individuals from the spirits industry, including Wayne Curtis of The Atlantic and the Daily Beast, Reid Mitenbuler of Whisky Advocate, Fred Minnick of the Wall Street Journal, Kara Newman of PUNCH and Wine Enthusiant, among others. Spirits were judged on appearance, aroma intensity, aroma complexity, palate concentration, palate complexity, body, character and nature of alcohol, texture, and finish.

Wigle was awarded a silver medal for Barrel-Rested Ginever, and bronze medals for their Ginever, Arriba Ginever, Walkabout Apple Whiskey, Afterglow Ginger Whiskey, Straight Wheat Whiskey, Pennsylvania Yellow Corn Bourbon, Wapsie Valley Bourbon, Cask Strength Wapsie Valley Bourbon, Deep Cut Rye Whiskey, Northern Exposure, Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey, Landlocked Spiced, Landlocked Spiced & Oaked, Absent Minded Absinthe, and O’zapft is Oktoberfest whiskey.

This win follows suit of three successful years for Wigle at the ASCA conference. The distillery took home 12 medals in 2016 and 6 in 2015.

2018 ASCA Conference to be held in Pittsburgh:

Each year, ACSA organizers make the official venue announcement of the following year’s conference. After visits to all cities in consideration, organizers determined Pittsburgh as the official host of the 2018 conference. The conference will be held at the Wyndham Grand Hotel downtown.

Distillery Celebration:

To celebrate the win, Wigle will host a “Heavy Medal Happy Hour” this Friday at the distillery. Held between 6-9 PM, the celebration will feature medal music, food from Food Baby food truck, tasting flights of the winning spirits, and free wee drams to attendees over 21 who RSVP online.
