SHORT POUR: Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar… This Friday Night!

Short Pour is a Breaking Brews feature that delivers libations news, information, and entertainment in 300 500 words or less. It’s all the info you need and none of the filler you don’t.

Science and Libations Collide This Friday in Pittsburgh

It’s a practice as cherished as the day is long: sit down at a bar, have a few beverages, and starting waxing intelligent with your companions. Beer, whiskey, cider, wine…all are glorious liquids and, as science tells us, serve as brain fuel that makes us know things. Lots of things. And we aren’t afraid to express knowledge of those things to everyone within earshot. And if we’re lucky, the next day doesn’t start off with us asking those same companions “What was I talking about last night?”

Without question, bars, tasting rooms, taprooms, etc. are great environments to learn. Many are centered around providing education to their visitors. From beer styles to food ingredients to what wines pair best with today’s specials and more, many establishments have utilized product information to generate memorable experiences as customers increasingly seek knowledge in today’s quality-driven world.

And sticking to that theme, scientists from the Carnegie Science Center will be using the same environments to drop some knowledge this Friday night at destinations all over Pittsburgh.

Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar is a new program developed by the Science Center that’s dedicated to educating adults. The title of the initiative is quite literal as two scientists will be stationed at several hot spots in town next to a sign that says “We are scientists. Ask us anything!” This will be your opportunity to belly up to the bar, grab your favorite adult beverage, and get answers to those burning science questions you’ve had stashed in your head for years. Each scientist specializes in different areas of expertise, but all are up for challenging questions…so don’t hold back!
