SHORT POUR: Soup’s On Beer & Soup Pairing Is Back!

Short Pour is a Breaking Brews feature that delivers craft beer news, information, and entertainment in 250 words or less. It’s all the info you need and none of the filler you don’t.

Soup’s On Returns to The Modern Cafe

Beer SoupLast year, yours truly teamed up with Constance Zotis, Co-Owner of The Modern Cafe, and Alan Wildy of Yards Brewing to host Pittsburgh’s first-ever beer and soup pairing event. Due to the success of said event…and the fact that all three of us are soup and beer nuts, we are “bringing soupy back” and doing it all over again in 2017!

That’s right, Soup’s On makes its triumphant return to The Modern Cafe on Thursday, March 30th from 6-9pm. We are shaking things up a bit this year as Alan now represents Bell’s Brewery and is bringing a fresh new lineup of beers to the party. Soup’s On II will feature four incredible soups from Modern’s extensive menu carefully paired with craft beers from the Bell’s portfolio. You will be able to order three cups of soup paired with three different beers served in 5oz. pours OR you can order a full bowl of soup paired with a pint of Bell’s beer.

And, as an added bonus, we will be celebrating the 2017 release of Bell’s popular summer staple: Oberon!

Here’s a sneak peek at the pairings:

  • Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup paired w/ Bell’s Oberon Pale Wheat Ale
  • Pizza Soup paired w/ Oatsmobile American Pale Ale
  • Spicy Mac and Cheese Soup paired w/ Bell’s Two Hearted American IPA
  • Stuffed Pepper Soup paired w/ Bell’s Lager of the Lakes Czech Pilsner

We will also be recording a simulcast podcast of Over a Couple of Beers and Jaron Barton’s Craft Beer Industry Podcast live at the event. Feel free to stop by the show and say hello.
