SHORT POUR: Rivertowne and Sly Fox Unleash Glove Dropper Collaboration

Get Set For a Stadium Series “Confrontation” Beer

Glove Dropper PouredWe are a little over a week away from the epic clash between the Pittsburgh Penguins and their bitter cross-state rival, the Philadelphia Flyers, in the 2017 Stadium Series showdown set to unfold at Heinz Field on Saturday, February 25th. As a huge hockey fan who was present for the very first Winter Classic in 2008 pitting the Pens against the Sabres, I can say, with first-hand knowledge, that outdoor hockey in the dead of winter is fun, cold, unique, and absolutely awesome! Plus, in this case, there’s the caveat of the Pens and Flyers continuing their longstanding rivalry on a very big stage.

To get into the spirit of the game, our friends at Rivertowne Brewing teamed up with Pottstown’s Sly Fox Beer to brew what’s been dubbed a “Confrontation Beer.” It was affectionately named Glove Dropper, an IPA brewed with Blood Orange that tips the scales at 6.0% ABV and 68 IBU (nailed perfectly in tribute to Jaromir Jagr, who played for both Philly and Pittsburgh in his illustrious career). Glove Dropper was brewed at the Rivertowne production brewery in Export and hit the canning line on Valentines Day.

“Glove Dropper was brewed with citrusy hops and is a lighter beer with plenty of flavor and aroma,” Dale Walters, Rivertowne Head Brewer, explained. “It was also brewed with blood orange, which gives it a delicious, orange character.”

Glove Dropper will not be available at Heinz Field for the Stadium Series game, but you’ll be able to find it on retail shelves at your favorite distributors so you can raise a few at your tailgate party before the puck drops. In addition, this collaboration/confrontation beer will be pouring at Rivertowne North Shore just down the street from the stadium. Glove Dropper will also be available at the Sly Fox brewery in Pottstown in cases and on draft, as well as their brewpub in Phoenixville.

There’s plenty of beer love in the air, but the hockey hatred still runs deep. On behalf of all of us on the southwestern side of the Commonwealth, I’ve only got three words: LETS GO PENS!
