Caliente’s Latest Brewery Collaboration Is On Its Way
The cast and crew of Caliente Pizza & Draft House have been busy over the last few months. Over 30 events for Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, earning the title of Best Pan Pizza in the World at the 2016 International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas, and hooking up with different breweries to brew special collaboration beers that have been featured at all their restaurants as well as the breweries who facilitated the projects. It certainly keeps things interesting and the series of beers they’ve helped produce have not disappointed.
Past collaboration beers have found Caliente working with breweries including East End, Church, Spoonwood, Draai Laag, Yard’s, and Hop Farm. Now, Caliente is in the midst of releasing their next one-off: an IPA brewed with Akron, Ohio’s Hoppin’ Frog Brewery.
The new beer has aptly been dubbed “I Pizza A,” a hoppy, well-balanced India Pale Ale brewed with Denali, Chinook, Cascade, Motueka, CTZ, and Experimental 07270 hops. Black peppercorns were also added to provide I Pizza A with a finish that complements any pizza.
Hoppin’ Frog has been recognized as one of the top 100 breweries in the world for the past nine years straight by RateBeer and was very eager to work with the Caliente team to create this beer. Owner Nick Bogacz and Caliente Collaboration Brewmaster Matt Moninger spent a couple days last week with Fred Karm and his award-winning brewers at the brewery in Akron, Ohio, learning how they operate and getting the ball rolling on their latest collab.
An expected availability date of mid-to-late August is expected for I Pizza A at all three Caliente locations in Bloomfield, Hampton Township, and Mount Lebanon. Stay tuned to PCBN and Breaking Brews for more news about this release as it develops.
