Caliente and Spoonwood Announce 2 Minutes to Midnight Release
Back in early December, the brewing process began and 2 Minutes to Midnight, a very unique, very big Imperial Stout began to take form. Spoonwood Brewing Head Brewer Steve Ilnicki and Caliente Pizza & Draft House Bar Manager Matt Moniger, as well as Caliente co-owner Angie Bogacz, worked in lockstep to create the latest beer in Caliente’s collaboration series, the 5th since they began partnering with other breweries back in 2014 during Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week.
The name 2 Minutes to Midnight came from the title of an Iron Maiden song and was brewed with vanilla beans, chili peppers, and chocolate direct from Sarver’s Speckled Hen Chocolate Company. A couple extra weeks in the fermenter resulted in a beautiful final product, with mild, subtle heat from the peppers and roasty, smooth chocolate and vanilla notes shining through from your glass. This stout weighs in at 10.3% and is the PERFECT beer to warm your blood as these low temperatures make themselves at home this February.
In addition to 2 Minutes to Midnight hitting the taps at Spoonwood and both Caliente locations, a VERY LIMITED amount of 22oz. bomber bottles will be available on the last weekend of February. Artwork for the label comes courtesy of Jason Collins, co-host of the Over a Couple of Beers Podcast, and the promotional poster below was created by Luke Homitsky of Artfunc Ltd. Half of the bottles will be available at Spoonwood Friday night, the other half at Caliente Bloomfield on Saturday.
As a special treat, Spoonwood’s food menu will feature a special dish prepared with the remaining Speckled Hen chocolate from brew day during Friday’s event.
