Modern Cafe, Bell’s Brewery, and Pittsburgh Libations Week Present Soup’s On III
In early 2016, my buddy Alan Wildy, then of Yard’s Brewing fame and today of Bell’s Brewery, tweeted how he’d love to see an event in Pittsburgh that featured beer paired with soup. Call it good timing, call it a strong affection for soup and beer, I saw this tweet and immediately replied to Alan that we needed to make this happen. A short phone call later and, in the words of the great Emeril LaGasse, BAM – Soup’s On was born.
Our first mission was to find a venue to host the event. Without evening having to put much thought into it, The Modern Cafe in the North Side was the choice. These guys feature a great rotating tap list plus serve up some of the best soup and sandwiches this side of the city. It was a no-brainer to Alan and I, and when I presented the idea to Modern co-owner Constance Zotis, she was on board.
The Modern Cafe, Bell’s Brewing, and Pittsburgh Libations Week are proud to present Soup’s On III and bring you four different soups paired with four different beers from Bell’s Brewing. You can order in flights of 3 cups of soup and 3 5oz. pours of beer OR you can get a full bowl of soup and a 16oz. pint of beer. And, if you want to take the party home with you, you can grab a growler + 64oz. container of your favorite soup to go!
Here’s this year’s pairing menu:
Spinach & Artichoke Soup – paired with Bell’s Oberon
Spicy Italian Soup – paired with Bell’s Two Hearted Ale
Seafood Bisque – paired with Bell’s Hopsolution
French Onion Soup – paired with Bell’s Expedition Stout
This year, we have an added twist. With Pittsburgh Libations Week coming up starting October 12th, we’ll be kicking our full week of adult beverage celebration off with a Kickoff Bash at Nova Place in the North Side featuring beer, wine, cider, mead, and spirits…all under one roof! This will also be your first opportunity to check out the collaboration projects prepared for PLW.
At Soup’s On III, whenever you purchase off our special soup + beer pairing menu, you’ll be entered to win THE VERY FIRST TWO TICKETS to the Bash! The more soup you purchase, the more chances you get to win. You don’t have to be present for the drawing (which will happen that evening), but you’ll need to be in the house for soup and beer.
Get ready, Pittsburgh: Soup’s On!
