Unless you’ve been on social sabbatical over the past few weeks, you’ve more than likely experienced the beer buzz permeating through the Pittsburgh region. That buzz, of course, centers around the fact that New Belgium Brewing is FINALLY making its way into our bars, our distributors, our bottle shops, and, most importantly, our hearts! New Belgium beers will be available all over Pittsburgh, as well as the rest of Pennsylvania, as of Monday, August 31st, and the gang from Fort Collins, Colorado kicked things off in the Steel City in epic fashion.
The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium served host to one fantastic party Thursday night that set the table for New Belgium’s big launch on the 31st. Retailers, bar professionals, wholesalers, craft beer media, and many other invited guests were welcomed by New Belgium representatives and got to sample a variety of beers from the initial lineup of PA offerings. This party not only helped familiarize those in attendance with the high quality of beer New Belgium is bringing to our city, but also gave everyone an opportunity to mingle and network in an atmosphere that was both laid back and brimming with anticipation at the same time.
A full spread of food was laid out for party goers, as well as a solid variety of brews from New Belgium’s portfolio: Pumpkick Seasonal Pumpkin Ale, Snapshot Wheat, Slow Ride Session IPA, Ranger IPA, Rampant Double IPA, and, of course, New Belgium’s flagship and most popular beer: Fat Tire. Also, one lucky winner rode home on a special New Belgium cruiser bicycle that was raffled off at the end of the evening.
Thursday’s party served as the perfect preview for what all of Pittsburgh is just mere days away from experiencing. Without a doubt, the New Belgium name is world-renowned and is synonymous with solid beer across the board. As New Belgium’s Ryan Kurtz mentioned in a post he made today, “This is the last weekend ever you have to go without New Belgium in PA!”
That, ladies and gentlemen, is a mighty fine thing.
Below are some pictures from Thursday’s kickoff party, as well as the full schedule of New Belgium samplings and tap takeovers taking place August 31st thru September 5th.
