More Hardware for Maggie’s Farm Rum; Single Barrel Rum Release

The following is a press release from Maggie’s Farm Rum.

The first Single Barrel release in over a year follows Miami International Rum XP Gold Medals

Just over a year after being recognized by the American Craft Spirits Association with a gold medal and as “Best-in-Show” spirit through their annual blind judging Maggie’s Farm Single Barrel has again been awarded a gold medal, this time on an international stage in the gold rum category among the rum world’s finest. The only other golds in the category went to Moneymusk Classic Gold of Jamaica and Plantation Original Dark from Trinidad.

Maggie’s Farm also won a gold medal from the Rum XP judging panel with the white rum and a “consumer jury” gold medal with Queen’s Share Double Oak rum. These three gold medals matched the most of any distillery in the international competition this year (only Plantation, a non-distiller producer won more).

Stored in American oak barrels previously containing only rum, the current award-winning finish has been aged just over two years. Over this period the rum was slowly watered down to 90proof and bottled unfiltered, all for flavor and aroma preservation. Last year’s release of Single Barrel was packaged after being aged for only one year.

Beginning noon on Friday, May 19th, 750ml bottles of Maggie’s Farm Single Barrel rum will be on sale at the distillery and online for shipping to PA residents with a max limit of 3 bottles per person. Only a limited quantity is available with an expected sell-out over the weekend.

2016 ACSA Judging Results:

“The annual RumXP Tasting Competition at the Miami Rum Festival is among the most prestigious events of its type in the world, bringing together a host of experienced rum judges from around the globe to evaluate the finest cane spirits from every region, every style and every category of rum.”

Allegheny Distilling, LLC, located in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District, was incorporated in late 2012 and began production of Maggie’s Farm Rum in October of 2013. Maggie’s Farm opened it’s cocktail bar in the distillery in January of 2014 and has arguably become the most awarded rum distillery in America in that time period. Maggie’s Farm Rum is the first commercially available Pennsylvania-made craft rum since Prohibition. All spirits are made from scratch from the fermentation of American-grown raw sugar cane and pot-distilled for full body and flavor on the Spanish-made copper still located behind the distillery’s cocktail bar. The distillery is open for tastings and bottle sales Wednesday through Sunday and serves cocktails Thursday evenings 4-10pm, Friday and Saturdays from 12-10pm, and Sunday 12-4pm.
