Let’s Get Real! Everything You Need to Know About the 2015 Real Ale Festival

There truly is something special about cask ale. It’s a true opportunity to taste beer in its most “real” form. It’s not “ice cold,” so more of the natural ingredients that comprise the craft beers you know and love are much more apparent and easier to detect.

On Saturday, October 3rd, Piper’s Pub hosts the 2015 Real Ale Festival, a celebration of all things cask, at Highmark Stadium in Station Square. This one-of-a-kind event is a tremendous opportunity to sample beer in its most real form. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PITTSBURGH REAL ALE FESTIVAL 2015

Saturday October 3, 2015 ~ 6pm – 10pm

Highmark Stadium, Station Square, Pittsburgh

We are excited to announce the date for the Pittsburgh Real Ale Festival! The festival, hosted by Piper’s Pub, is taking place on Saturday October 3rd from 6-10pm at Highmark Stadium, located in Station Square. Tickets will be $50, available online through Ticketmaster or pick them up in person at Piper’s Pub – 1828 East Carson Street in South Side. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday August 11th at 11am both online and at The Pub. Admission includes Logo Sample Glass, Real Ale Samples, Food and Entertainment – Tartan Devils Soccer Matches, Commonwealth Press Screening Shirts On-Site, Live DJ.

This year’s festival boasts 35 gravity-poured firkins, specially procured for this event, from our favorite local, regional and national breweries. The Pittsburgh Real Ale Festival is the largest of its kind in our region. Real Ale differs from traditional gas-carbonated ales in that they are naturally carbonated with yeast in the 10.5 gallon firkins, or mini-kegs, they are served from. Real Ale uses no additional gasses to carbonate, relying on natural yeast fermentation in the firkin to carbonate the ale, creating a smoother, creamier tasting beer. “Cask Ale gives you the true flavor of a beer. You get the full, malt richness and ripe, hop flavor without the excess bitterness that cold and carbonation add.”, says Hart Johnson, Cellarman at Piper’s Pub.

Since 2008 Piper’s Pub has dedicated itself to the serving of Real Ales in our pub from our custom built cellar pulled thru our four Anagram hand pump system in the traditional English way, from firkins naturally carbonated thru secondary fermentation using no blanket pressure system ever. It is our passion. “For me this festival is just about the beer. No gimmicks just real ale, some football on the pitch and some tasty food with good friends”, say Drew Topping, owner of Piper’s Pub and The Pub Chip Shop, hosts of the event. We are bringing this passion for serving Real Ale to a festival, using custom built cradles we will gravity pour and properly serve 35 Real Ales made exclusively for this event. A list of participating breweries, and their beers as they share them with us, will be found at www.pghrealale.com and will be updated regularly.

Piper’s Pub and The Pub Chip Shop will be cooking up some of their specialties for the event – rumors of fried-on-site Boxty Tots abound – because man cannot exist on Real Ale alone; food is included with admission.

The festival will take place on both levels of Highmark Stadium, both inside and out; rain or shine we will have Real Ale. During the festival The Pub’s soccer team, The Tartan Devils, will take the field against league rivals for a matches starting at 6pm and 8pm, Commonwealth Press will be on site to screen festival t-shirts, and we are lining up a local DJ for music. The 2015 Pittsburgh Real Ale Festival will prove to be an amazing fall night along the river with spectacular city views and an equally impressive festival of Real Ale, food and fun.

Details about the festival will be posted to www.pghrealale.com as they are confirmed. Please contact Drew at piperspub@gmail.com or at 412.445.8843 for any further information or with any questions about The 2015 Pittsburgh Real Ale Festival.
