Can Releases Hitting Pittsburgh This May

A big welcome home to many of the brewers, brewery owners, and sales force who spent last week in Nashville for the annual Craft Brewers Conference. This year’s gathering also saw the return of the World Beer Cup, an every-other-year competition that pits breweries from around the world against one another with offerings of each brewery’s choice taking center stage. Pittsburgh was well-represented as Rivertowne, Penn, and Roundabout all brought home WBC medals! Get the full scoop here.

As is becoming the norm, lots of special releases are going down in May and those offerings are hitting cans for your at-home and on-the-go enjoyment. Here’s a look at some of the breweries putting some beautiful liquid inside aluminum cylinders for you and me to put in our fridge:

Cinderlands

Congratulations to the crew at Cinderlands as they release their first canned beer this month! The beer is a “TartShake” IPA known as Celestial Shore. I could go into more detail, but Paul Schneider, Cinderlands owner and head brewer can do a way better job than me. And he did just that on the Cinderlands blog. Click here to learn more.

And as if the first Cinderlands beer to be available in cans isn’t enough, they’re also giving you a chance to win a 4-pack! Click here for the details.

East End Brewing Company

Some big can news is coming from East End Brewing, so consider this your teaser. When I know, you’ll know…

For now, I can reveal that a new version of Pennsylvania Handshake is coming your way at the end of the month (exact date TBD)! This installment of PA Handshake, created in collaboration with Pizza Boy Brewing, is a juicy, hazy IPA brewed with milk sugar, vanilla, and strawberries. It will be packaged in 16oz. cans.

Fury Brewing Company

Whether you’re into the lines that can releases generate or you’re not, this beer’s for you. No Line New England Style IPA from Fury Brewing tips the scales at a crushable 5.7% ABV and is brewed with Galaxy and Mosaic hops. It will be released on Friday, May 11th at 4:00pm at the Fury taproom. They expect to have 15-20 cases available to go ’round.

Grist House Craft Brewery

It’s a big month at Grist House as they celebrate their 4th Anniversary at the end of the month. Instead of a smash cake, they decided to do a massive can release so you can stock your fridge in style. They’re also doing two releases leading up to the triple can release on May 25th. Here’s the rundown:

Wednesday, May 9th at 5:00pm – Chameleon – NE IPA – 7.0% ABV – Available in 16oz. cans

Friday, May 18th at 5:00pm – Lucid Manatee – Double IPA – this is the first in a three-beer series that will be released throughout the summer – Available in 16oz. cans

Saturday, May 26th at 12:00pm – TRIPLE CAN RELEASE – Hazadelic Juice Grenade NE IPA, Hippy Science IPA: Myrcene Edition (the first in a series of beers exploring the different components of hops), and Kaboom Candy Fruited Sour: Raspberry Passion Fruit (the first in a series of aggressively fruited sours) – All available in 16oz. cans

And don’t miss a weekend of fun at Grist House Memorial Day Weekend. Happy Birthday, Grist House!

ShuBrew

The ShuBrewery in Harmony is set to roll out the 8th beer in their Pixelated IPA series. This bad boy is known as Slappers Only and is brewed with Simcoe, Loral, and Galaxy hops. Slappers Only also features Juniper Berries, which add an underlying level of bitterness intended to recreate Bond’s shaken, not stirred martini.

Slappers Only will release on Friday, May 25th from 4:00pm – 9:00pm in Harmony.

Spoonwood Brewing

No new can releases from Spoonwood this month, but they still have some Below The Fold NE Pale Ale – 5.5% ABV, Above The Fold NE DIPA – 8.6% ABV, and Killer Diller IPA – 6.7% ABV – available for you to snag!

Thank you to this month’s participating craft breweries for providing their release schedule. They are doing God’s work and packaging it so we can drink it on our patios. Cheers!
