Embassy. The word itself conjures up thoughts of importance and notoriety, does it not? Its definition is a body of persons entrusted with a mission to a sovereign or government, also the official headquarters of an ambassador and a mission headed by an ambassador. In other words, it’s kind of a big deal.
On Sunday, May 31st, 2015, Caliente Pizza & Draft House added another well-deserved honor to their resume as they became Pittsburgh’s first Rogue Nation Embassy. They were voted by the Rogue Nation to receive this award, an honor bestowed upon only a handful of craft beer destinations across the country. The award was presented by Rogue legend Big Al Jorgenson, a man who’s been on a nationwide trek via the Rogue Nation RV to swear in new members to the Nation and discover the wealth of craft beer excellence venues from state-to-state are serving up. Big Al’s RV odometer rolled over 3,000 miles tallied as he broke Pittsburgh’s city limits.
As a member of the Pittsburgh craft beer community, your travels have undoubtedly taken you to Caliente in Bloomfield and Hampton Township by now and, if they haven’t, you need to recalibrate your compass and get their immediately. Caliente has firmly cemented their spot at the top of Pittsburgh’s go-to craft beer destinations list by offering a lineup of always-rotating, never-boring craft beers often times hard to come by in other parts of the city, as well as holding events surrounding those beers that add a new level of hype and excitement to your favorite beverage. In addition, Caliente features some of the best pizza in Pittsburgh. Period. Spinach and feta…alls I’m sayin’.
Over the past few years, Caliente has gotten on the map in more ways than one. Their pizza has won multiple awards. Both of their locations are renowned hot spots during Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week as unique events unfold throughout the entire 10-day beer celebration. They’ve had pizza legend Tony Gemignani in the house signing copies of his book The Pizza Bible. Even Tomme Arthur of Lost Abbey & Port Brewing has guest bartended in Caliente’s Railsplitter Speakeasy, located on the lower level of the Bloomfield location, and called the Lost Abbey event Caliente held one of the best he’s ever attended.
These stamps of approval don’t come every day, but Caliente continues to build their resume with incredible recognition from entities both local and nationwide at an incredible pace. Owners Nick and Angie Bogacz are committed to consistently delivering the best experience possible when you visit either of their locations by putting the highest quality craft beers and foods in front of you. With their strong business philosophies shining through at every juncture, it’s easy to see why The Rogue Nation chose Caliente for this prestigious award.
