In what’s quickly becoming known as a renaissance in the world of craft beer, the city of Pittsburgh finds itself in the substantial thick of these booming and plentiful times. Many have turned the page on ordinary and are vehemently demanding extraordinary when it comes to the adult beverages they consume, and their demands are not going unmet. Very seldom do so many examples of this paradigm shift unify under one roof.
That is, until, the Beers of the Burgh opens the gates for their 3rd craft beer festival on Saturday, May 16th in Lawrenceville. This event will give purveyors of artisanal libations center stage to spotlight their creativity. Over 40 breweries, cider houses and meaderies will be in attendance to serve up offerings of their best beverages in a happening that’s rapidly becoming a staple in the Pittsburgh craft beer landscape.
Beers of the Burgh debuted in 2014 with their inaugural event just prior to Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week and followed it up with another successful festival this past November. With so many new breweries bringing cutting-edge, innovative products to the market, this little festival, masterminded by Mark Turic and Grace Miller, gives Pittsburgh a unique opportunity to discover so much of what’s available to them…all under one roof. It’s a tremendous way to familiarize yourself with the greatness being brewed right here in our own backyard and, hopefully, turn you on to visiting some of these destinations to capture the full essence of what they’re doing to fuel the craft beer movement in Pittsburgh.
This year’s event is jam-packed with local and regional breweries with samples ready to light up your palate. In addition, Beers of the Burgh has partnered with Piper’s Pub to offer 10 exclusive firkins, a small cask that is dedicated to housing Real Ale or beer that has not been cold-filtered, pasteurized and carbonated by outside equipment, to VIP attendees. This is a great opportunity to taste beer in a condition that allows maximum taste profiles to reveal themselves, thus allowing you to better experience the natural ingredients that go into making craft beer so unique.
In addition to driving the growth of craft beer, Beers of the Burgh represents driving growth within our community as a whole as well. Proceeds from this Spring’s festival will go towards Neighborworks Western Pennsylvania. Their mission is to financially empower individuals and families so home ownership and stable communities become reality. Neighborworks will have their own booth at the event and, for just a small donation, you can get a pretzel necklace, perfect for cleansing your palate while indulging in the wide variety of beer and other adult beverages at your disposal throughout the afternoon.
Here is a list of who you’ll be sampling brews from on the 16th:
There will be a slew of food trucks in the house serving up some of your favorite grub, so don’t worry about going hungry. There will also be live music and special treats brought to you by various locales in Pittsburgh. Caliente Pizza & Draft House, with locations in Bloomfield and Hampton, will also be holding a three-day PA Tap Takeover at their Bloomfield location starting Friday, May 15th thru Sunday, May 17th and will hold a special Beers of the Burgh After-Party on Saturday night!
In addition, yours truly and Jason Collins of the Over a Couple of Beers Podcast will be recording a special live interactive podcast with all of the event attendees. Stop by the show, talk about the beers you love and give your thoughts on the Pittsburgh craft beer scene! There may even be a special prize involved for one lucky guest. Stay tuned for details…

As the overall growth of craft beer continues its rise in the Steel City, an important piece of the puzzle is what’s happening locally. Craft beer options are abundant across the nation and have made their way into our market for us to enjoy, but what’s happening at a local level is undoubtedly enhancing the entire culture for beer enthusiasts. Events like Beers of the ‘Burgh are great showcases for collaboratively showing you what the local brewers are creating, while at the same time helping a great cause. It’s up to you to show continued support for our local breweries by making an effort to drink their offerings when available, and without question, Beers of the Burgh will serve as a platform for helping you find a few new favorites.
The event is SOLD OUT, but Like Beers of the Burgh’s Facebook Page and stay close as people may need to sell their tickets last minute. VIP access gets you in the door at 4pm on the 16th, regular ticket access gets you in at 5pm.
