16 Scary Ass Halloween Parties Going Down in Pittsburgh

Jack o Lantern364 days out of the year, people look at you funny when you leave your house dressed like Cher from the “If I Could Turn Back Time” video. But not this week. That’s right, it’s Halloween! And costume creativity is what it’s all about.

Whether you’re dressing up as Bazooka Joe (topical), Marty McFly from Back to the Future (sort of topical), your favorite Walking Dead character (no one’s gonna do that…), Small Wonder (this just got weird), or Hilary Clinton, chances are if this blog post is crossing your path, you’re a little too old for trick or treating. So…you need a place to party like it’s on sale for 19.99!

 Tuesday, October 27th

  • WHAT: Halloween Hoedown
  • WHERE: Bocktown Beer & Grill – Robinson
  • TIME: 8:00pm til ??
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: It’s time to put together your best ghoulish costume and make your way to Bocktown for their annual Halloween Hoedown! Enjoy great beer, a full food menu, and live music from Earth by Train!

Wednesday, October 28th

  • WHAT: Yelp’s Monster Bash
  • WHERE: The Mattress Factory – Museum of Contemporary Art | 505 Jacksonia Street, Pittsburgh
  • TIME: 7:00pm – 10:00pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Get ready for monsters, mummies, and more at Yelp’s Monster Bash, a spooktacular free event at the Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition to complimentary sampling of food and drinks from 20+ local vendors, attendees will enjoy a variety of entertainment – from scary characters you’ll meet in dark corners to getting zombified yourself, this is going to be an eerily good evening! A $10 suggested donation at the door will benefit the Mattress Factory. Event is for 21+ only.

Thursday, October 29th

  • WHAT: Meet the Maker w/ Wigle Whiskey
  • WHERE: Spoonwood Brewing Company – Bethel Park
  • TIME: 6:30pm – 9:30pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Spoonwood Brewing kicks off three days of Halloween festivities with this special event in partnership with Wigle Whiskey. Come meet the creators of some of Pittsburgh’s best beer and spirits and enjoy special beer and whiskey flights, too. Costume not necessary…but to each their own.

Friday, October 30th

  • WHAT: Victory Devil’s Night Costume Party featuring Hop Devil!
  • WHERE: Caliente Pizza & Draft House – Bloomfield
  • TIME: 7:00pm – 2:00am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Put together your best costume (see Small Wonder, above) and get to Caliente to celebrate with all the rest of the ghosts, goblins, and Game of Thrones characters. Hop Devil will be flowing strong…in addition to all the other awesome beers Caliente has on tap.

 

  • WHAT: Carved Pumpkin Contest
  • WHERE: Spoonwood Brewing Company – Bethel Park
  • TIME: 7:00pm – 10:30pm (judging to begin at 9:00)
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Come see how your pumpkin carving skills stack up against other craft beer enthusiasts! Bring your best carved pumpkin to Spoonwood and enter it in the competition. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded to the best entries. Oh, and the Special Guest Judge? *DRUM ROLL* The one and only Rick Sebak!

 

  • WHAT: Halloween Party at The Pub & Pourhouse
  • WHERE: The Pub & Pourhouse – Brookline Blvd.
  • TIME: 9:00pm – 2:00am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: It’s a Halloween extravaganza and YOU are invited! Come enjoy a wide variety of craft beer options and wear your Halloween best. The person with the best costume of the night leaves with a BRAND NEW 40″ FLAT SCREEN TV!

 

  • WHAT: Halloween Costume Party w/ Southern Tier Brewing Special
  • WHERE: Caliente Pizza & Draft House – Hampton Township
  • TIME: 10:00pm – 2:00am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: It’s pretty simple…Pumking and Warlock are two of the best pumpkin beers out there. And tonight, all you have to do is get dressed up in your best Halloween costume and you’ll get a FREE Pumking or Warlock draft at Caliente in Hampton! Plus, it’s Caliente…so you’ll want to dive into some award-winning pizza and wings, too.

Saturday, October 31st

  • WHAT: The Monster Mash Brew Tour
  • WHERE: Pick-up at The East End Growler Shop in the Pittsburgh Public Market, visit Grist House Brewing and Draai Laag Brewing
  • TIME: 12:00pm – 4:30pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Kick off your Halloween by getting to know three great Pittsburgh breweries. This tour starts off with samples at the East End Brewing Growler Shop, then proceeds to Grist House Brewing for a full tour and samples, followed by a visit to the Draai Laag Brewing tap room.   • WHAT: Night of the Living Dead 60s Soul, Pop, and Surf Dance Party
  • WHERE: The Independent Brewing Company – Squirrel Hill
  • TIME: 3:00pm – 1:00am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: From 3:00-9:00, it’s business as usual at The Indie with normal hours and dinner service. But at 9:00pm, they’ll clear out the dining room to make room for you to do the watusi, the mashed potato, the shake, the hitchhike, the Madison, or whatever 60s dance move you care to bust out of the repertoire. Admission is free, and you’ll be treated to $3 tacos from 9-midnight.

 

  • WHAT: Costume Night!
  • WHERE: Spoonwood Brewing Company – Bethel Park
  • TIME: 7:00pm – 10:30pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Get dressed up and win! A special guest judge will be in the house to determine the best costumes at the party. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place!

 

  • WHAT: Rivertowne Brewing’s Annual Halloween Party
  • WHERE: Rivertowne Brewing Taproom – Export
  • TIME: 7:00pm – 11:00pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: It’s time for Rivertowne’s annual Halloween bash! Music will be provided by DJ Matt Porter. Don your All Hallow’s Eve best and get ready to party!

 

  • WHAT: The Modern Cafe’s 5th Annual Halloween Party
  • WHERE: The Modern Cafe – North Side
  • TIME: 8:30pm – 12:30am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: It’s a costume party for the ages at The Modern Cafe. DJ Ben and Jeff will be playing live, no cover charge for the show. All kinds of craft beer options available and some of the best sandwiches on the North side of the ‘Burgh.

 

  • WHAT: 99 Bottles Halloweiner
  • WHERE: 99 Bottles – Carnegie
  • TIME: 9:00pm – 2:00pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: 99 Bottles is in the Halloween spirit and you’re invited to a killer party complete with food and drink specials, Southern Tier Warlock and Pumking on draft, and The Rockin’ Bones playing LIVE from 9:00-midnight. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume!

 

  • WHAT: Grown Ass People Halloween Costume Dance Party
  • WHERE: James Street Gastropub Ballroom – North Side
  • TIME: 9:00pm – 2:00am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Never has the title summed up what’s happening at this bash more perfectly. It’s a bunch of adults dressed in their Halloween best dancing the night away. Just like Thriller. OK, kind of like Thriller.

 

  • WHAT: A Jim Beam Apple and Devil’s Cut Halloween Bash
  • WHERE: Smokin’ Joe’s Saloon – South Side
  • TIME: 7:00pm – 2:00am
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Jim Beam is in the house! Well, not the actual Jim Beam…but you’ll probably get far dressing up like him for the evening. Or like a Jim Beam bottle. This is spiraling downward quickly. Anyway…the Jim Beam Girls will be in the house with swag, shots, AND will be judging a costume contest. Come see if you’ve got what it takes to win!

 

  • WHAT: All Day Horror Movie Festival
  • WHERE: Full Pint Brewing – North Versailles Brewery
  • TIME: 12pm – 10pm
  • THE GHOULISH DETAILS: Craft beer paired with horror flicks. Because Halloween! Don’t miss this all-day scary movie marathon complete with a costume contest AND chili special!
